In the case of the mattress, you will not have to experience all of the things you have had experienced with a spring mattress. A memory foam mattress is denser than other mattresses. Because of this, a memory foam mattress is more supportive, though it is heavier. It comes in between the comfort of a really soft mattress and the stiffness and solidness of a firm one, making it a good compromise. A memory foam mattress of good quality is able to distribute weight evenly, which is like having your weight supported by billions of springs. A memory foam mattress has cells that deform whenever weight is applied. Unlike a spring mattress, which springs always exert pressure against your bodys weight, the cells in the memory foam mattress fully compress and spread their air pressure to the adjoining cells. The pressure is then spread to more cells of the mattress, so the pressure you feel is also reduced. This is responsible for greatly reducing the pressure points. Sleeping on such a mattress significantly reduces the pressure points on your body by up to 80%, therefore leading to good blood circulation. With these particular kind of mattresses, all the tossing and turning which makes you unable to get a good night sleep is greatly reduced. With spring mattresses, there is always fiber or some type of foam that is placed over the springs, but these coils will cause a trampoline effect and tend to bend inward whenever pressure is applied and they do this without conforming to the bodys specific bumps and curves. A spring mattress acts as a shock absorber and this reduces the wear and tear of the mattress. So the fewer coils there are in the mattress, the thicker the springs get. Another thing about spring mattresses is that the foam covering the springs could shrink over time, making springs exert more effort in supporting the weight, thus making them susceptible to losing their shape or getting broken over time.
These chemicals that are used in these traditional mattresses are potentially very unhealthy to our babies. Chemicals that are used in these typical mattresses off-gas and the babies breath these gasses while they are sleeping. Phosphorus, antimony and arsenic are some of the chemicals that are used in the manufacture of the typical crib mattress. While there isnt actual proof that the use of these chemicals in these mattresses is related to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), what is known is that after chemicals were initially added to crib mattresses, the incidents of SIDS rose dramatically. While the chemicals used for the filling are bad enough, the moisture-proof vinyl covering has various potential health hazards as well. According to the FDA, the vinyl that has been used in the moisture-proof outer layer has been known to cause allergic reactions in many humans. Another issue with the moisture-proof vinyl outer layer is that this material does not breath and restricts air flow. When you consider that in conjunction with the chemicals used inside the traditional crib mattress it gets pretty scary. Even though the vinyl outer layer is moisture-proof, these chemicals can still leach through it and your baby can breath the gasses while inside the crib. The good news is that an organic crib mattress offers a safe and healthy option.
